How To Fulfil Your Calling In Your Workplace Or Business.

“Any full time missionary here?” My pastor asked the congregation during the service.

Only few hands raised up. He responded, “Everyone should raise their hands. You are all full time missionaries disguised as a lawyer, an accountant, fill the blank whatever jobs you are in!”

Our workplace is our mission field. We don’t have to work for church, to be sent forth to Africa to be a missionary. It is God’s strategy to place His children in different spheres of influence such as corporation, government, education, entertainment etc. The lord sends you and me to be the light in our workplace.

I am a full time missionary disguised as an entrepreneur.

I have a tech company called Hosbby, http://www.hosbby.com, an online marketplace for hobbies, we help talented people to earn extra income by sharing their skills and expertise. It is an effective tool to outreach skilled individuals and people in the tech industry.

In this blogpost, I would like to share 3 points about how to fulfil our callings in our workplace or business.

1) Accept yourself and know who you are

If we cannot understand our true identity in Christ, we will hardly fulfil His callings. I can related to the identity struggle as a congenital leg amputee, In my early years, I tried to pretend I had two legs like everyone by walking with a heavy prothetic leg.

I struggled with my body image and low self esteem, I tried to get validation from people and the wrong things. When we strive to prove ourselves’s worth and pretend to be someone else, we reject God’s promises, His acceptance and love for us.

The moment I accepted Christ, I am no longer an orphan and a slave to fear, I am a child of God! Now I didn’t use a prothesis to hide my disability, I am on crutches and have no problem in showing my one leggedness. I can walk with joy and focus on His callings.

2) Obey God and Follow Him wholeheartedly.

God wants to bless us but He requires our obedience and faith. God has given me dreams and desires to become an entrepreneur. I love making things happen and making positive impact on others.

Few years ago, I wanted to start my own business without counselling God, it is like Sarah producing Ishmael. By the grace of God, He protected me from a bad venture and partnership, He spoke to me through the bible and the church. He gave me this verse: “Unless the lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” Psalm 127:1. I repented and chose to wait patiently in His time.

He has given me my current business and I learned a lesson to follow Him wholeheartedly and to obey Him when He calls. The decision is ours, if we don’t obey Him and have faith, He may give the tasks and blessings to someone else.

3) Keep praying at work and for your workplace.

Praying without ceasing at work. When I first started my company, I was under tremendous pressure and honestly didn’t pray that often. I had made some costly mistakes and was under attack without God’s guidance and protection.

Now I pray all the time. To start my work day, I pray for wisdom, discernment, blessings upon my co workers and business. I pray before meetings and making any decisions. Especially our workplace can be a battlefield.

We will encounter difficult situations and people "The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." Prayers are the most effective weapon to tear down strongholds and release God’s blessings.

“Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being,

for the Lord and not for men, because you know that you will receive an inheritance from

the Lord as your reward.”

Colossians 3:23

I once shared this message for the foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong.“Your faithfulness at work is way more valuable than people who build a billionaire business empire which will perish.”
